Hi Guys
As
a student of YSEP program, we have several compulsory subjects. One of them is
the Study on Japanese Companies and Industries or SJCI. This course has a very
attractive system. In SJCI, we are given the opportunity to listen to lectures
directly from company and industry experts, rather we have a chance to come
directly to the company and directly observe the situation there.Wednesday,
October 5th 2016 was the first time for us, the students of YSEP 2016 to visit the company. Our destination is
Ikebukuro Safety Learning Center. The distance is about 20 km from the Tokyo
Institute of Technology. On that day, the Tokyo Tech has prepared everything
very well, including a bus that took us all to Ikebukuro. The journey there
took about 40 minutes.

When
we arrived there, we were divided into three groups, namely Group A, B and C. I
myself into the group A together with
friends that the majority come from southeast asia. First of all, we watched
a video about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Japan is an island nation
located close to the border of the continental shelf. This resulted in frequent
earthquakes. The video shown some of the great earthquake that happened in
Japan and also the impact on the building. Japan has often hit by earthquake
since a long time ago so that the handling of the earthquake have been much
better. The last time Japan affected by huge earthquake was in 2011 where the eastern
region of Japan became shambles. The earthquake also caused a tsunami that
damaged homes and infrastructure around the beach. The video made us realize
how important an understanding of disasters such as earthquakes and tsunami.
Then
after watching the video of the earthquake, we learn how to save ourselves from
the fire. We got a chance to try out the house fire simulation. Of course, the
fire and smoke that appeared was not real. From there I learned that inhaling
smoke when fires are the leading cause of death. There are several things you
have to consider when saving yourself from the fire. First you have to find the
emergency exit , if you want to get down to the ground floor do not use the
elevator. Second, do not panic and do not run, because it will lead to breath
faster and more inhale the carbon monoxide. Lastly, try bending and holding on
to the wall.
The
next activity is to learn how to use the fire extinguisher. Before using it, we
were taught a few things like when he saw the fire, the Japanese people would shout
"Kajida" which means there is a fire. Then we were taught how to use
them. The first lift using the right hand, then remove the seat, after which
point the hose and the latter is pressed so that spray water very quickly.
The
final activity which is the most interesting was to experience earthquake
simulation. Before went into simulation, we learn about what must we do during
an earthquake. When an earthquake occurs, the most important thing is to
immediately take cover under a table. Do not forget to protect yourself,
especially the head and feet. In Japan, you do not need to turn off the gas
stove when the earthquake happens because the system will automatically shut
off. That day I had the opportunity to feel the enormity of the earthquake Japan in 2011, which has the power to
magnitude 9. Despite less than 1 minute, it was terrible. By following the
first trip to Ikebukuro Safety Learning Center, I gain experience and knowledge
in dealing with disasters such as earthquakes and fires. Thanks to the YSEP
team.
